Irene Francis Fugara is the Co-founder and Executive Director of Bright Jamii Initiative, a non-profit organization in Tanzania focusing on women and children socio-economic rights.

Before starting Bright Jamii, Irene was with the head of the Legal Empowerment and Children Protection Department (Tanzania) – coordinating projects that targets women and children in accessing their rights, providing legal aid to women and children of domestic violence. A former coordinator with the Lawyers Environmental Action Team, specializing on the review of land policies and laws on equal participation of women in land matters, at the local level.

Irene is a graduate of University of Dar es Salaam, with a Bachelor’s Degree of Law.
